Outfit of the Day

This outfit was inspired by wishing for a time machine to go to our “ideal” age. Sometimes it’s the 80′s (I don’t blame you, because NEON), sometimes it’s romantic 1920′s Paris, and sometimes it’s that glitz and glamour of old Hollywood. How far you can take it is the ultimate question. If you want to do a small throwback or go all-out dedicated to looking like you just stepped out of the TARDIS (time machine).

Print scarf (vintage), Tiffany’s Flower Collection sunglasses, black skinny high-waisted jeans (BCG), black heels (NastyGal.com), sleeveless black turtleneck (vintage), long white nails (priceless)

I chose to fall into the transition category between nostalgic and modern by combining a silk animal print scarf with a minimalist all-black outfit. I rarely wear pants, but this ensemble wouldn’t have placed enough focus on the scarf if I chose a skirt or shorts. The cutout black heels give the outfit that extra edge, creating a clear distinction between the modern simplicity and vintage classic. The Tiffany’s sunglasses (of course polarized) complete the outfit by further emphasizing the glam Grace Kelly/Audrey Hepburn look I was going for. Even though this hot Texas day wouldn’t traditionally remind you of old Hollywood, the outfit works. Below are a few inspirations of today’s look.

Dress how you feel, not where or when you are.

All ready for a drive

Classic in a simple white scarf and sunglasses

It was fairly common in the 1950′s and 1960′s to wear something similar when driving in a convertible in order to keep the hair at bay (because nobody is about that life). Today if you have access to a convertible you can rationalize the headscarf/sunglasses combo that way, even though fashion never needs rationalization.

For the musical inspiration I chose the following songs:

Comment te dire adieu by Françoise Hardy

And the modern twist…

Grace Kelly by MIKA

Thank you for reading, comments and questions are always welcome.
